Office of the President of Montenegro: Attendance at the commemoration of operation „Storm“ is not a state obligation for Montenegro

Montenegro maintains good relations with Croatia as a neighbouring country and partner on its path toward the European Union. Those relations are based on mutual respect and cooperation, but they do not require attendance at commemorative events that also evoke painful memories for many citizens of Montenegro - the Office of President Jakov Milatović said in a statement.
The statement notes that, for many people in Croatia, operation „Storm“ is a symbol of victory in the war, while for a large number of Serbs it represents suffering, displacement and the loss of their homes.
- A responsible state policy for a civic and European Montenegro requires restraint and respect for all victims of the wars in the former Yugoslavia, without applying a selective approach - the President's Office said.
