President of Montenegro calls on Constitutional Court to act swiftly, saying it is a „matter that could set a precedent for some future steps“

Milatović: Decision to transfer „Kruševac“ Palace into private ownership is illegal and unconstitutional

I believe that the decision to transfer the palace, which is a protected cultural asset and part of protected cultural heritage, into private ownership is a scandalous, illegal and unconstitutional decision by the parliamentary majority. For precisely these reasons, I submitted an initiative to the Constitutional Court to review the constitutionality of this provision of the law, asking the Constitutional Court to impose an interim measure prohibiting the transfer of ownership until its final decision - Milatović said

President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović said that the decision by the parliamentary majority to transfer „Kruševac“ Palace, as a protected cultural asset, into private ownership was scandalous, illegal and unconstitutional, which is why he initiated proceedings before the Constitutional Court to review the constitutionality of the relevant legal provision.

- I believe that the decision to transfer the palace, which is a protected cultural asset and part of protected cultural heritage, into private ownership is a scandalous, illegal and unconstitutional decision by the parliamentary majority. For precisely these reasons, I submitted an initiative to the Constitutional Court to review the constitutionality of this provision of the law, asking the Constitutional Court to impose an interim measure prohibiting the transfer of ownership until its final decision - Milatović said.

He said he believed this was the only thing he could do after he had already once returned the law, only for the parliamentary majority to vote for it again.

- After that, I no longer have any mechanisms provided for by the Constitution, apart from this one, namely an initiative before the Constitutional Court. I expect the Constitutional Court to act swiftly. This is a very important matter and an issue that, in this way, could set a precedent for some future steps - Milatović said.

Therefore, he stressed, he expects the Constitutional Court to act promptly and deliver its final ruling as soon as possible.

- In the end, that is precisely their job - Milatović concluded.
