Members of the Montenegrin Parliament will not vote today on the proposal to appoint Predrag Krstonijević as a judge of the Constitutional Court, Portal ETV has unofficially learned.

The Speaker of the Parliament of Montenegro, Andrija Mandić, reportedly requested at yesterday’s collegium that the vote not be held today in order to allow more time for reaching an agreement.

Mandić scheduled the extraordinary parliamentary session, which includes a second vote on the proposal to elect one judge of the Constitutional Court, at the request of the President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović. The session began on February 10, when the agenda was adopted, and Mandić then announced that MPs would subsequently declare their position on the proposal. Milatović submitted the proposal to appoint Krstonijević as a Constitutional Court judge to Parliament on December 3.

In the first round of voting on December 31, Krstonijević did not receive the necessary support from MPs. He was supported by 25 out of 45 MPs who voted, while 20 abstained. In the second round, a three-fifths majority, at least 49 votes, is required for the election of a Constitutional Court judge.

Out of the envisaged seven judges, the Constitutional Court currently has six.
