As Montenegro enters the final stage of its accession negotiations, every vote carries responsibility for the country’s European future - Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčević said, adding that citizens understand the difference between declared support and concrete responsibility.

Members of Montenegro’s Parliament voted last night in favour of the Government’s proposal to amend the Constitution, which provides for mandatory preliminary integrity checks of candidates for the post of prime minister-designate and members of the executive branch.

In a post on the social media platform X, Gorčević congratulated the MPs who, as she noted, had supported the proposed constitutional amendments despite political differences, demonstrating that the national interest takes precedence over party-political calculations.

- I previously said that the required majority existed even without part of the opposition - Gorčević said.

According to her, last night, those willing to take responsibility stood behind that assessment.

- Citizens understand the difference between declared support and concrete responsibility - Gorčević added.
