Dukaj: Ministry of Public Administration launches oversight of Mojkovac Municipality following Mayor’s conviction

The Ministry of Public Administration has initiated an administrative oversight procedure over the work of the Municipal Assembly of Mojkovac regarding the implementation of the provisions of the Law on Local Self-Government relating to the termination of the mayor’s mandate, Minister Maraš Dukaj announced.

According to Dukaj, the oversight was prompted by information that the Mayor of the Municipality of Mojkovac has been finally convicted in criminal proceedings.

Dukaj stressed that the Law clearly stipulates the circumstances under which a mayor’s mandate terminates automatically by operation of law, as well as the obligations of the Municipal Assembly in such cases.

- The Ministry will issue its oversight findings and provide clear guidelines to the Municipal Assembly of Mojkovac regarding the proper implementation of the Law on Local Self-Government - Dukaj said.

He added that the Ministry acts lawfully and consistently in all cases, rejecting claims that its work is influenced by political motives.

- To those who frequently feel the need to lecture or caution the Minister of Public Administration, unfortunately with political overtones, my response remains the same: every initiative they submit will be considered, and the Minister, together with the Ministry’s team, acts lawfully and equally in every situation, free from political influence and based solely on the available documentation - Dukaj stated.

According to him, this is the only way to ensure the uniform and proper application of the law and to uphold the principle of legality.
