Indictment filed against Katnić and Čađenović: Suspected of abuse of office and unlawful influence in the „State Coup“ case

The Special State Prosecutor’s Office has filed an indictment against former Chief Special Prosecutor and head of the Special State Prosecutor’s Office Milivoje Katnić and Special Prosecutor Saša Čađenović on reasonable suspicion that, acting as co-perpetrators, they committed the continued criminal offense of abuse of official position and the criminal offense of unlawful influence in the „State Coup“ case.
As stated in the announcement, the indictment was submitted to the Special Department of the High Court in Podgorica after the investigation was completed.
The subject of the indictment and the proceedings, as stated in the announcement, is the joint decision of the defendants to reach an agreement with the legal representative of Joseph Assad, a citizen of the United States of America, for him to come to Montenegro and testify in the manner requested by the defendants in proceedings before the High Court in Podgorica, against the accused Andrija Mandić and Milan Knežević, leaders of the political alliance Democratic Front, and other individuals, for the criminal offenses of forming a criminal organization, attempted terrorism, and preparing acts against the constitutional order and security of Montenegro through incitement.
The statement recalls that the Special State Prosecutor’s Office, and the defendant Čađenović, had previously initiated criminal proceedings against Assad for the offenses of forming a criminal organization and attempted terrorism by aiding and abetting.
They add that there is suspicion that Assad was supposed, by coming to Montenegro, to confirm the allegations of the indictment of the Special State Prosecutor’s Office against them, which was represented by the defendants, and that in return, the national and international arrest warrant against him would be withdrawn, that he would not be arrested or detained, and that the criminal proceedings against him would be discontinued.
The Special State Prosecutor’s Office also notes that Čađenović has been suspended from duty due to another ongoing criminal proceeding against him.
