Montenegro’s women’s cadet handball national team, which won the silver medal at the U18 World Championship, will receive one-off financial support from the current budget reserve. The Government has proposed allocating €63,000 to members of the national team and coaching staff, or €3,000 per person.

- It is proposed that the Ministry of Finance, from the funds of the current budget reserve, provide the necessary funds in the total amount of €63,000 for the payment of one-off financial support, as a form of recognition, to members of the Women’s Cadet Handball National Team and members of the coaching staff, in the amount of €3,000 per person. The funds would be paid directly to the athletes and members of the coaching staff, ensuring that the recognition for the achievement is directly directed to those who, through their commitment, directly contributed to its accomplishment - the Government’s information states.

According to the Government’s information, the Ministry of Sports and Youth obtained the consent of the Ministry of Finance on 13 August.

- Pursuant to Article 5 of the Law on Sports, which defines sport as an activity of public interest, as well as Article 12 of the same law, which, among other things, recognises as a public interest in the field of sport the promotion of Montenegro through sporting activities, the encouragement and promotion of elite sport, and providing special care for promising athletes, we consider it justified and socially significant to provide additional financial support to members of the Women’s Cadet Handball National Team of Montenegro and members of the coaching staff in recognition of this significant sporting achievement - the Government’s information states.

The achievement of the handball players, the Government notes, represents a valuable sporting success of particular importance to Montenegro, given its contribution to the country’s recognition and promotion on the international sporting stage, as well as the fact that elite athletes, through their achievements, are among Montenegro’s most important ambassadors.

- The proposed financial support represents a one-off recognition by the state, namely the Government of Montenegro, for the achievement and contribution to the promotion of Montenegro. It does not constitute a replacement for, or reduction of, the regular systemic support for sport provided in accordance with the Law on Sports. On the contrary, its purpose is to further recognise the achievement alongside existing support mechanisms and to express special recognition to the athletes and members of the coaching staff who, through their work, dedication and results, contributed to this success - the Government’s information emphasises.

Through this form of support, the Government says, the state is further confirming its commitment to the development and advancement of elite sport, the promotion of sporting values, and the creation of a supportive environment for young and promising athletes. Through their achievements, they represent Montenegro in the best possible way and contribute to the country’s international reputation.
