The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Montenegro Nebojša Rodić was summoned for talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro regarding a post published on the official X account 2Serbia in English“ of the Office for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, in which the issue of the status of the Serbian language in Montenegro was commented on in an inappropriate manner.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that the post disseminated through an official communication channel of the Government of the Republic of Serbia is considered unacceptable, given that it concerns matters that fall exclusively within the jurisdiction of Montenegro’s constitutional and legal system.
Ambassador Rodić was informed that, in accordance with Article 13 of the Constitution of Montenegro, the Serbian language is in official use, which confirms that Montenegro respects the rights of all citizens who use it. It was also recalled that Article 10 of the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia stipulates that the Serbian language is in official use, indicating the same constitutional practice in both states.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it expects official communication between the two countries to be conducted in a manner that contributes to regional stability, mutual respect, and the further enhancement of cooperation, with full respect for sovereignty and internal jurisdiction.
